‘Killing Them Softly’ Trailer: Comically-Bumbling Criminals, Notable Gangster Actors, Tinted Glasses, You Know the Deal

killing-them-softly-trailer.jpg

Re-teaming with his The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford director to this time wield a pistol with a more darkly comic grip, Brad Pitt stars in Killing Them Softly, Andrew Dominik’s adaptation of the George V. Higgins novel Cogan’s Trade. In the film, a couple inept criminal nobodies rob a high-stakes, mobster-run poker game, and end up on the wrong side of hired gun Pitt, as well as Ray Liotta and James Gandolfini–who, as I’m sure you know, are right up there with De Niro and Pesci when it comes to high-profile fictional mobsters you shouldn’t mess around with. Pitt’s Burn After Reading co-star Richard Jenkins also appears, making the whole thing feel somehow a little more like a Coens production and less like Generic Criminal Black Comedy, but we’ll have to wait and see if that ends up really being the case. Best to reserve that judgement for after we see how many dorm room posters this thing moves. In the meantime, here’s the trailer.
