- Hunger Games rising star and Thor brother Liam Hemsworth is signed to star in Phillip Noyce’s Timeless, a sci-fi romance about a man who uses the inheritance from his deceased wife to construct a time machine and see his love once more, and try to justify to her why he isn’t out killing Hitler.

- Selena Gomez and her July Moon production banner have optioned the rights to the Jandy Nelson novel The Sky Is Everywhere. Gomez will play a 17-year-old band geek who grows up in the shadow of her popular sister–until her sister abruptly dies, that is, leaving Gomez with not overwhelming grief but rather TOO MANY BOYS. And one too many grown men, unfortunately.

- If you like completely unsubstantiated rumors involving women donning patriotic shorts, here’s a good one: the ever-reliable New York Post claims Haywire‘s Gina Carano is being eyed to star in a film adaptation of Wonder Woman to be directed by Drive‘s Nicolas Winding Refn. Except, no, probably not.

- Just as James Franco, Charley Rossman, Yehuda Duenyas, David Cross, Hank Azaria, Tim Hickey, and Ron Livington have before, Daniel Radcliffe will appear on screen as Allen Ginsberg. The actor has just signed on to the indie beat film Kill Your Darlings, daringly agreeing to once again put on some glasses despite knowing fully well we’re all going to be like, “Hey, it’s Harry Potter!”

At 69 years old, Harrison Ford at last watched the Indiana Jones films he’s been avoiding the last thirty years. And man, did he ever love the shit out of them:

Look, we could debate all day whether or not this is really Harrison Ford watching the Indiana Jones trilogy for the first time, or if, in actuality, it’s apparently Harrison Ford playing Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. Fact of the matter is, I don’t really care either way; observing an awed, excited Harrison Ford is pretty entertaining no matter what it is he’s reacting to. Perhaps his greatest role yet is Quietly Delighted Grandpa. “It’s an adventure” indeed.

Good if you want to see: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’s melodramatic look at a romance between a beautiful civilian and an opposition soldier during the Bosnian War–because who knows the anguish of what it’s like to have a passionate romance strained by political lines better than Team Jolie?

Albert Nobbs
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Starring: Glenn Close, Mia Wasikowska, Aaron Johnson
Good if you want to see: Glenn Close play a cross-dressing servant, as if Mrs. Doubtfire didn’t already adequately say HELL-OOOO to that subject matter.

Pina
Director: Wim Wenders
Good if you want to see: choreographer Pina Bausch’s work explored in a documentary that uses 3D to allow her choreography to play out in different layers of the frame. Which sounds like such a waste compared to how Michael Bay made all these sweet explosions whiz out at you in Transformers 2.

Good if you want to see: 9/11 finally given the mawkish, cloying perspective of a precocious boy investigating a key left by his father, who was killed in Tom Hanks Tower #2.

A studio cannot subsist on Saw sequels and Tyler Perry’s alone, no matter how hard they might try, Lionsgate has decided they’d better go ahead with a remake of Mary Harron’s cult classic, American Psycho.

The project is to be written and directed by Noble Jones, a second unit director on The Social Network who previously shot music videos for Mary J. Blige and Taylor Swift–whose music he may very well thoroughly analyze through his American Psycho protagonist’s monologues. See, while the Christian Bale-starring 2000 original (like the Bret Easton Ellis novel) placed Manhattan investment banker/serial killer Patrick Bateman in the 1980s–making the film as much a dark satire of Wall Street boom yuppy culture as it was a violent thriller–the plan for this new version is to set it in the present day, taking into account the obvious changes on Wall Street and advances in business card fabrication. Now Bateman will abruptly cut off conversations because he has to return some Netflix envelopes, presumably.

The remake will also apparently be even cheaper than its $ 7 million predecessor, as it’s being pitched as a “microbudget,” which would seem to imply production values along the lines of the usual films dubbed as “microbudget”: $ 2 million horror movies involving security cameras. So if nothing else, it should at least be interesting to see how the gruesome axe murders play when they’re only implied by a swinging chandelier and a knocked-over tripod.
