‘Thor: The Dark World’ Has A Trailer Now

Thor The Dark World Poster

Here’s the official trailer for Thor: The Dark World that’s, uh… not very good. It definitely gives off a “We shot this in Croatia for as cheap as possible” vibe, but from what I’ve read, a large chunk of the movie takes place across the Nine Realms which I’ll assume is where all the money Read More …

Jean-Claude Van Damme Up for ‘Avengers 2′, By the Way, If That’s What Thor Wants

jcvd.jpg

As we’ve already learned he’s wont to do, Jean-Claude Van Damme has found himself once again getting a little too excited in public.

jcvd-stan-lee.jpgWhile posting this adjacent photo of his 1994 self caressing Stan Lee, the actor on Sunday decided to also propose a new Marvel connection, basically saying he’d be up for joining The Avengers 2, should Earth’s next threat require a 50-something Belgian guy.

“Well, it would be fun to play one of these types of amazing comic book characters again,” Van Damme wrote–but not without prompt, as he also made clear, “I read that Chris Hemsworth (star of “Thor” and brother of Liam Hemsworth, “The Expendables 2″) would like me to costar in “The Avengers 2″ movie!” Which, obviously, no, that’s not really the case–though it is slightly more true than you might imagine. LatinoReview points to this ten-month-old USA Today story, where The Avengers cast was asked who they’d add to the team. Chris Evans said Salma Hayek (she has yet to formally respond via Facebook), while Hemsworth did, in fact, say “Van Damme,” specifying: “from Bloodsport. A big kick to the alien head.”

So, yeah, you probably shouldn’t be expecting to see him in Avengers anytime soon. But on the plus side, you can apparently expect to see him rendered in oil paint very soon. “Keep an eye on my Facebook wall, everyone,” Van Damme writes, following a post in which he verifies that he is not dead. “I am announcing the ‘JCVD Artwork Contest’ soon.”

More ‘Avengers’ Clips: Thor Fights Iron Man, Fury and Loki Discuss Cages

avengers-iron-man-vs-thor.jpg

For those that want their first viewing of The Avengers to be a largely familiar experience, Disney-Marvel is going out of their way to make that a possibility. As part of their plan to slowly leak the film in two-minute pieces, studio has just released two more clips, these ones depicting a verbal war between Nick Fury and Loki and an actual war, with lightning bolts and head-butts and shit, between Iron Man and Thor. Have a look below. Loki and Sam Jackson’s intense discussion of cage usage is way more interesting than when the guy at PetSmart asks you to please get out of the dog kennel, sir.

“The Avengers” Captain America vs. Thor: Watch Now!

It’s smack dab in the middle of a pre-release promotional blitz, and “The Avengers” has amped up even more excitement for its debut with an all new clip.

In the latest offering from Yahoo, the scene lights up with what appears to one seriously epic battle involving Thor (Chris Hemsworth)and Captain America (Chris Evans) against Loki’s army.

As for the rest of the action/adventure film, it follows Nick Fury and a band of several super humans who form The Avengers in effort to save planet Earth from the evil grasp of Loki.

Set to arrive in theaters May 4th, the picture delivers an all-star cast, including Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Stellan Skarsgard and Samuel L. Jackson.

‘Drive’, ‘Death Proof’, ‘Thor’ and More as Amazing Paper Dolls

paper-doll-drive.jpg

This time last year, illustrator Kyle Hilton premiered a set of Arrested Development paper dolls that almost negated the need for an Arrested Development movie. They were that good–and far less likely to ultimately leave us disappointed. At the time, I openly begged Hilton to continue making these, and guess what: it turns out he has been. Reminded by Vulture’s brilliant, just-commissioned set of Downton Abbey paper dolls, I today revisited Kyle’s blog, and h. shit THERE ARE (MANY) MORE. So good:

It’s so rare that something is both so smart and so incredibly well-crafted. I want to give these all the stickers in a teacher’s “nice work” drawer. And those are just the movie dolls, guys! Do yourself a favor and go to the Flannel Animal blog for all the television sets, which include Breaking Bad, Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Parks & Recreation. Statistically speaking, by currently reading an entertainment blog, it is impossible that you do not like at least one of those shows.

Guy Who Directed TV Shows You Liked in Line for ‘Thor 2′

thor-loki.jpg

Marvel’s new philosophy on finding directors: Look to the world of geek-beloved television. Having already hired nerd hero Joss Whedon to direct The Avengers, the studio is now talking to Brian Kirk about taking on director duties for Thor 2. You may not know Kirk’s name off hand, but if you are a television-watching obsessive, you’ve surely seen his work, as his résumé includes stints on Dexter, Luther, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and more. He’d be taking over Thor from a departing Kenneth Branagh, who’s decided to leave the series after only film, seemingly finally realizing how weird it was that he, Kenneth Branagh, was making a superhero franchise film. Instead, Branagh will be doing something called The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, a post-WW2 love story set on the Nazi-liberated isle of Guernsey. Ah, yes, that tastes much more like genuine Branagh flavor already.

‘Thor 2′ Writer Might Make You Worry About ‘Thor 2′

thor-loves-kissin.jpg

Hey, did you like that Thor movie? Well, then the good news is, though Kenneth Branagh is leaving the franchise, at least one of the film’s three credited screenwriter will be returning to write the sequel. The bad news: it’s probably the worst of the three credited screenwriters. While the Thor writing team of Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz also worked on the similarly well-regarded X-Men: First Class, it’s solo scriptwriter Don Payne who’s been tasked with writing Thor 2. Payne’s prior work includes the Uma Thurman comedy My Super Ex-Girlfriend and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, neither of which speak well for his ability to write a superhero movie. If Thor slips in an “It’s HAMMER TIME!” this go, now you know who to blame.

‘Thor 2′ Will Be Out in a Couple Years, and More…

thor-loki.jpg

- Ready for another Thor to come out? That will be two years: Disney has just set the release date for the sequel at July 26, 2013. Also, Kenneth Branagh is not as excited about it as you, so he’s not going to direct this one.

- Speaking of Thor Man, Chris Hemsworth is attached to star in the action thriller Shadow Runner. It will have nothing to do with Shadowrun, nerds.

- Vince Vaughn will re-team with Ben Stiller on Neighborhood Watch, a high-concept comedy about a group of husbands who use their watch group as an excuse to hang out, but uncover a plot to destroy the world. Owen Wilson is now moping around, awkwardly shuffling his feet, so someone please just invite him.

- David O. Russell may next direct Brad Pitt in The Mission, a based-on-real-life film about special operatives rescuing hostages from a Colombian guerilla group. Of course, David O. Russell may also direct a Russ Meyer biopic or six or so other things, so don’t count on it.

- Don’t worry: Brooklyn Decker’s film career will not begin and end with Just Go With It. In addition to her part in Battleship, she’ll also be in What To Expect When You’re Expecting.
