Still no sign of auteur Uwe Boll as DreamWorks and Sony line up directors for their respective video game properties.

Chronicle director Josh Trank, who previously had been loosely attached to rebooting the Fantastic Four franchise, will now be guiding the actions of different giant rock creatures. He’s signed with Sony to direct their adaptation of Shadow of the Colossus, the video game about riding around on a horse and carefully murdering a bunch of oddly-beautiful, massive stony monsters just waiting for you to stab a sword into their moss-covered heads. Trank is sort of an odd choice for the job, considering Shadow is known for its lush, gorgeous vistas and expressive lighting, while Chronicle is famous for being shot really cheaply on camcorders, but the director reportedly sought out the job–and hey, it’s a more interesting choice than indiscernible-CGI-giant maestro Michael Bay, so might as well give Trank a shot. Someone just make sure he watches Where the Wild Things Are before he starts.

Meanwhile, over at DreamWorks, they’re apparently in talks with Scott Waugh to direct their desperate Fast/Furious rip-off adaptation of racing game Need for Speed. Waugh was a co-director on Act of Valor, which already basically looked like a military video game, so assuming he’s able to swap discs in the XBOX of his mind, this shouldn’t be such a big change for him.

Question by ALLaboutDC: How do I find out what my internet connection speed is? and what slow’s it down?
I’m trying to use the new netflix “watch now” function but it shows that my internet connection is too slow to stream the video.

I have RCN cable DSL which is supposedly fast right? I haven’t had trouble with other online video’s or downloads. It says that I need at least 500 kbps to see the netflix video though.

I’m using window’s vista and the latest version of internet explorer.

Internet speed is based upon your ISP (internet service provider). There are several sites that can test your connection. You can go to one of the Web sites below and run a speed test.

Concert pianist Elijah Wood and his wife are going to die! Unless Elijah Wood plays HIS BEST CONCERT EVER, that is. We’re going to make that a movie now, okay, everyone?

As reported by THR, Wood will star in Grand Piano, a ridiculously high-concept indie thriller written by Damien Chazelle and to be directed by Eugenio Mira. Labeled by the trade as “Speed at a piano,” the film will see Wood as an esteemed pianist–retired for five years due to crippling stage fright–making a dramatic return to the stage. It’s once on-stage that things turn vaguely Speed-esque for the musician, as his sheet music comes with a note explaining that he and his wife will be killed unless Wood comes through with “his best concert ever,” so he had better play objectively breathtaking. Just as we nervously watched the speedometer on Sandra Bullock’s bomb-rigged bus, we will soon anxiously gaze at.. some sort of indicator that will let us somehow know whether or not the character is playing at his peak! Or something like that. The important part is that this is “Speed at a piano,” which sounds very exciting and not at all like “Phone Booth with more encouragement for the arts,” which would be stupid.

This must have been what Jason Statham was holding out for.

Variety reports all the major studios (except Universal, who already has a whole lunchpail full of cars and muscle guys) are competing to win the movie rights to Need for Speed, publisher Electronic Arts’ game series about driving cool cars. The idea is to turn the popular franchise into something in the vein of the Fast movies, if that wasn’t implicit enough already.

Paramount is said to be the frontrunner for the package, which includes more than just the title and concept of driving cool cars: EA already had Real Steel screenwriters George and John Gatins write a script to fill in what cool cars are driven, where they drive, and what people say when they aren’t driving cars. Those details are still being kept hidden, but there may be some clues in that the last game–the 18th in the series and the first to bother with a plot–involved Never Back Down‘s Sean Harris and Drive‘s Christina Hendricks racing from San Francisco to New York City. So maybe something like Cannonball Run, but now Dom DeLuise would be bustier.
