Film Independent Spirit Awards 2012: The Show, The Winners

With another awards show naming its honorees, the 2012 Film Independent’s Spirit Awards took place in Santa Monica, California on Saturday afternoon (February 25).

Hosted by Seth Rogen, the star-studded beachfront ceremony’s big winner was the French film “The Artist” – which took home four trophies including the top prize of Best Feature.

Opening up the ceremony, Rogen jokingly discussed why awards season is a must-have, as he said, “Without awards season we wouldn’t know what a bigot Brett Ratner was,” which referred to the filmmaker’s anti-gay slur made last year while he was producing the Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, triumphant moments saw “My Week with Marilyn” leading lady Michelle Williams garner yet another Best Actress trophy for her growing collection while Jean Dujardin was doted with Best Actor accolades for his work in “The Artist”.

With Shailene Woodley and Christopher Plummer nabbing supporting role trophies, the complete list of 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards winners is as follows:

Taylor Swift Talks “Love Stupidity” on “The Tonight Show”

Kicking off the week with a visit to the late night circuit, Taylor Swift was one of the guests on-hand at “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Monday (February 20).

The “Mean” singer prettied up the NBC Studios set in Burbank as she sat down with Leno to promote her upcoming movie “The Lorax,” which hits theaters on March 2nd.

Aside from plugging her new film, Miss Swift chatted about topics including what ‘mean’ really means and being stupid in love.

Of her tendency to be too trstful in others, the 22-year-old told, “I’m a Sagittarius and it says one of our major qualities is that we’re blindly optimistic. So when I’m in love I’m just stupid about it. And I trust people, constantly, and I’m always like, ‘I’m not gonna trust people anymore, I’m gonna be one of those dark, twisty girls who guys love because they’re all, like, guarded and stuff. And then I just trust people again… all the time!”

Swimsuit Model Kate Upton Visits the “Late Show”

Swimsuit model Kate Upton swapped her bikini for a sassy red dress as she arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York City on Tuesday (February 14).

The nineteen year old showed off the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover before heading inside for her interview on the “Late Show with David Letterman”.

Earlier this morning Kate also made an appearance on the “Today” show and talked about being a model, saying, “Well, in my opinion… you know everyone talks about how the age of the supermodel is dead… but I don’t think it’s dead. I think people want more. You know, we have new technology so people want to see personalities not just someone walking down a runway or just a face. That’s why campaigns go to actresses now.”

After the interview, she tweeted, “Just finished the @todayshow and for real I’m looking hot haha”.

Are there any Australian cinemas that show movies past “new release” status?

Question by Adrian Cunha: Are there any Australian cinemas that show movies past “new release” status?
Not much to add to that. Does anyone know of any cinemas in Australia (preferably in Sydney) that show favorite movies of the past few years rather than just new releases?

Best answer:

Answer by Big Red Candle
I dont think there would be much demand for that, most people would prefer to just rent the dvd
I live in Sydney, those kind of independent cinemas did not survive into 21st century, maybe the Chauvel in Paddington is the only one left.

What do you think? Answer below!

Follow the Loop of TV Show References to Other TV Shows

tv-reference-loop.jpg

Starting with an SNL episode’s reference to 30 Rock, jumping from there to a 30 Rock reference to Community, and continuing on in that fashion, reference to reference, this video from pleatedjeans plots out one possible path to eventually loop back around to an SNL reference, completing the circuit and making all television self-aware and probably hostile. It’s a pointless effort for sure, but hey, it only takes a few minutes, and any route that cruises past Fresh Prince of Bel-Air for a cameo from Beetlejuice‘s Glenn Shadix is a worthwhile trip in my book.

Honestly, how many séances have you done, Otho?

Dwight Schrute Getting His Own Show Now

dwight-schrute-farm-ice.jpg

With The Office winding down (it is winding down, right?) and the debacle that was Joey apparently wiped from NBC’s mind with Matt LeBlanc’s sudden Golden Globes respect, the network is now reportedly considering an Office spin-off centered on the wacky times of Dwight Schrute. But don’t worry, guys, this will not be another Joey. It will be more of another Golden Palace, because Rainn Wilson will be trying to run a little inn:

…the proposed spinoff is a family comedy, which was the brainchild of Wilson and The Office executive producer/showrunner Paul Lieberstein. It will have Dwight (Wilson) living at the Schrute family beet farm and bed & breakfast, which have been featured on the show several times, including in an episode where Jim and Pam visited Dwight there.

The potential spinoff will be introduced in an Office episode later this season set at Schrute Farms. “Paul and Rainn have been joking for years about Dwight’s life on the farm, his family and how ill-suited he is to run a B&B,” a source close to The Office said. “A while ago, it started to feel like a show to them.

With the network already on board to desperately prolong Wilson’s tenure for as long as it takes to get rid of all the fucking bobbleheads they ordered for the NBC store, the idea has reportedly already progressed even further since conception, “developed to include multiple generations, many cousins and neighbors.” Because what a show acutely focused on an eccentric, beet-obsessed oddball needs is a rotating cast of even wackier characters and distracting cameos to create a hazy white noise of unbelievable insanity.

If the series gets picked up, it would potentially launch midseason 2013, leaving The Office with one less voice in its cacophony of crazy comments and forced romances. Not that the series will necessarily go on much longer anyway. Deadline notes that Ed Helms, John Krasinksi, and Mindy Kaling all have other, larger prospects in development and no deals yet in place for even the next season. This could be the beginning of the end for The Office. Or it could be the beginning of Stanley inexplicably becoming the boss and James Spader’s dopey identical twin showing up to play an intern/love-interest for Oscar. We’ll see.
