Keira Knightley & Steve Carell: “Seeking a Friend” LAFF Premiere!

With the romantic dramedy set to hit theaters on June 22nd, Focus Features held a star-studded premiere for “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” in Hollywood, CA on Monday evening (June 18).

Joining alongside one another for the Los Angeles Film Festival held screening were leading lady Keira Knightley and her male counterpart Steve Carell, with the pair charming their way around the red carpet at the Regal Cinemas L.A. Live venue.

Aside from Keira and Steve, co-stars Adam Brody, Gillian Jacobs, Melanie Linskey, Connie Britton and Rob Corddry were all on-hand while newlywed/pregnant actress Drew Barrymore and her director gal pal Diablo Cody showed up to offer their support.

With writer/director Lorene Scafaria also joining in on the festivities, her upcoming film revolves around a man (Carell) who finds himself alone after his wife leaves in a panic upon hearing that an asteroid is headed towards Earth.

Carell’s character, Dodge, then sets out on a road trip to reunite with his high school sweetheart, but is accompanied by his neighbor (Knightley) who causes some hiccups along the way.

‘Seeking a Friend for the End of the World’ Trailer: Steve Carell, Keira Knightley Learn Kirk Cameron Was Right

Lorene Scafaria’s follow-up to Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist takes a marginally less twee route than its predecessor but seems to be getting at the same point: two people searching for something sometimes find that what they really were looking for was a bond between one another, guys! But while Nick & Norah explored this phenomenon through a painfully young, hip, white method involving mix CDs, indie shows, and Michael Cera, Scafaria’s aptly-titled Seeking a Friend at the End of the World already starts off on a more tolerable-if-timely note, taking the Mayan calendar’s predestined pairing of Steve Carell and Keira Knightley as strangers-turned-unlikely travel companions trying to find their loved ones before the imminent apocalypse. Instead (or maybe also?): they find May-December friendship (or maybe more?)! And they find Britta from Community at a T.G.I.Friday’s place, so they both make out with her, those lucky dogs:

Hey, Carell is in his “I’m always on the verge of tears because I’m not playing a maniac this time” mode! I love that mode! Alright, Lorene Scafaria, I’m in, but ever so barely. I was so close to storming out on the internet once I saw it took two people to adorably play a harmonica on the beach, but then I remembered drunk Patton Oswalt, and that kept me seated. Drunk Patton Oswalt is always a draw.
