Pace Revolutionizes “Tron: Legacy” 3D Capture and Post Production Work flow Process

PACE announces it was the innovative company responsible for designing and supplying 4 FUSION 3D rigs outfitted with 8 Sony F35 cameras and a fully integrated On-Set Stereo Lab™ for Walt Disney Studios’ 3D high-tech adventure, “TRON: Legacy.” The film was released in theaters December 17, 2010.

“The challenges of ‘TRON: Legacy’ from the beginning were ambitious. Maximizing use of the latest technology was necessary to bring this film to the screen,” said Vince Pace, CEO of PACE “We worked closely with the ‘TRON: Legacy’ team, Joe, Claudio, Jeff, and Steve, to bring to the film innovative solutions like the latest F35 cameras from Sony and a completely uncompressed workflow in 4:4:4. PACE/Cameron’s FUSION 3D system has become the most utilized and creative 3D and workflow system available within the industry. The FUSION 3D rigs outfitted with Sony F35 cameras captured “TRON: Legacy” live-action footage during the film’s Vancouver production. Dave Watro functioned as Stereoist overseeing FUSION 3D camera use and managing PACE’s state-of-the-art On-Set Stereo Lab™—a powerful tool used to drive creative production control, provide data backup and verification, stereo evaluation, real time and instant 3D viewing, dailies adjustment, editing and coloring and create editorial and studio deliverables.

“Director of Photography Claudio Miranda used software to color time the frames of stills on-set from each scene,” said Dave Watro, Stereo Lab Supervisor of PACE. “We worked very closely with Claudio to provide dailies and editorial deliverables using our On-Set Stereo Lab™ with the look and color that he envisioned. Our on-set workflow process allowed the director, Joseph Kosinski and producers to watch scenes shot the day before in stereo and in the desired look.”
