Gabby Douglas Meets Former American All-Around Olympic Gold Medalists

Team USA has a lot to celebrate at this year’s London Olympics. One of those reasons is the adorable Gabby Douglas who recently spent time with the former all-around women’s gymnastics champions Nastia Liukin, Carly Patterson and Mary Lou Retton.

As previously reported by GossipCenter, the 16-year-old champion eagerly took her place in Olympic history when she dominated in the Individual Women’s All-Around Gymnastics Final on Thursday night (August 2) with a 62.232-point finish.

After the afternoon outing, the beloved Retton tweeted, “Four generations of champs!” Mary Lou took home the gold medal in 1984, while 24-year-old Patterson took home the honors back in 2004 and Liukin was the victor in 2008.

Nastia showed her support for the young gymnast and tweeted, “so proud of you @gabrielledoug,” while fellow Team USA gymnast Jordyn Wieber congratulated her writing, “You are the Olympic all around champion, and you deserve it girl!”

Michael Phelps & Gabby Douglas Win Big at London’s Olympic Games

While they both had already garnered hardware for themselves and their homeland of the United States, Michael Phelps and Gabby Douglas had grander hopes when it comes to winning medals at London’s 2012 Olympic Summer Games.

Fresh off of capturing gold in the Team Final earlier in the week, 16-year-old Miss Douglas eked out another first place finish in the Individual Women’s All-Around Gymnastics Final on Thursday night (August 2).

The 4’11” Virginia Beach native’s score of 62.232 was enough to earn her a second gold – as she edged out Russia’s Victoria Komova by 0.259 points.

Meanwhile, Phelps – who recently became the most decorated U.S. Olympian ever – added to his staggering totals by topping teammate Ryan Lochte in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley final.

The 27-year-old swimming sensation’s gold-clenching performance made for his twentieth Olympic Games medal, of which he told press, “Cool to add to my resume.”

Gracious in defeat, Lochte said, “Sometimes you have it, sometimes you don’t. But overall, I can’t be too disappointed. I am coming home to my country with five Olympic medals.”

Steve Carell Will Murder an Olympic Wrestler

steve-carell.jpg

Free of the sitcom obligations that have for so long kept him from soiling his image with the blood of slain Olympic wrestlers, Steve Carell will at last fire a few shots into a gold medal grappler in Foxcatcher, the latest portmanteau project from Moneyball director Bennett Miller. In the film, Carell will play John du Pont, a member of the famed Du Pont family who used some of his vast, inherited fortune to build a wrestling training camp called Team Foxcatcher on his Pennsylvania estate. The facility managed to lure Olympic Gold Medalist wrestler Dave Schultz to the grounds, and that’s where things get tragic, because it turns out John du Pont was a paranoid schizophrenic, and in January 1996, he fatally shot Schultz to death in front of the estate security chief and du Pont’s wife. What a shitty wrestling camp that turned out to be. After the shooting, du Pont locked himself in his mansion for two days–negotiating on the phone as rich people are allowed to do for a couple days–before going to prison, where he died just last year at 72. No word on who could be playing Schultz, but after Get Smart, probably The Rock, right?
