- The BBC has confirmed that gross fan fiction will be made real when David Tennant and Billie Piper join newer Doctor and companion Matt Smith and Jenna-Louise Coleman in this November’s Doctor Who 50th anniversary special. John Hurt will also appear to be like, “Wouldn’t I have been a pretty good Doctor?” We will agree.

- While Stephen Soderbergh has retired from feature films, he’s not quite ready to finally bite into that new Bioshock quite yet. In addition to stage versions of Magic Mike and Cleopatra, he tells EW he’s also working to adapt John Barth’s 1960 novel The Sot-Weed Factor into a 12-hour miniseries. The one-hour episodes will look at the colonization of Maryland in the 1600s from a satirical angle. Truly nothing is sacred.

- Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez, and Laurence Fishburne have signed on to star alongside Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy in Macy’s directorial debut, Rudderless. The film focuses on a father who, after the loss of his son, discovers the deceased kid’s written music and forms a band in the hopes of finding himself closure. Instead, he finds himself in the behind-the-warnings stock footage of an erectile dysfunction drug commercial.

Already weakened by the loss of Alex Trebek’s mustache, Jeopardy! may soon find itself even woefully less hirsute with new host Matt Lauer. That’s the rumor from The New York Post, where they say Lauer is at the top of Sony Picture Television’s list to take over hosting duties when a 75-year-old Alex Trebek finally steps down from his duties when his contract lapses in 2016. The timing works out well for Lauer, whose contract with Today ends in 2015; having received most of the blame for the morning show falling behind Good Morning America, he’s expected to let it expire and find some new property to infest. Anyway, a final decision on the matter is said to be over a year away, and Anderson Cooper is said to still also be in the running. It’s not clear why they aren’t even considering longtime champ Ken Jennings, and I’m also still not all that clear on why the show is called Jeopardy!.

Teaming up with her two main men for an Independence Day outing, Christina Aguilera was hand-in-hand with boyfriend Matt Rutler as they took young Max Liron out to the beach in Malibu, CA on Wednesday (July 4).

The “Voice” star put her patriotism on full display while draped in an red, white and blue as she joyfully watched on as her man played a little ball with her 4-year-old son.

Christina’s Fourth of July doings come as she’s in the midst of putting together material for a new album, with it just having been revealed that Swedish producer Max Martin is helping out on the first single.

Previously talking about what fans can expect when her disc sees release, Aguilera dished, “Well, I started [it] whenever I started this show [The Voice], and then [the show] kind of took off into this big thing. So the show used to be a side project [and it] kind of turned into a bigger time-fulfilling, dedicated project for me.”

“I’ve been in the studio, hard at work,” she added. “Different producers I’m working with have just excited me so much and have given me amazing tracks and beats and material I’ve been writing to and [with] writing partners. It’s just filled with fun and excitement, and it’s gonna come out later this year, and I’m very, very excited to share it with my fans, finally.”

For years Simpsons fans have, bored by debates about the best Lionel Hutz quotes, tried to determine the location of the town of Springfield. Unfortunately for them, Springfield as depicted in The Simpsons is not an actual town, so it’s pretty hard to figure out exactly where it is unless creator Matt Groening just outright tells everyone and–oh, hey, now he’s sort of done that.

Speaking to Smithsonian Magazine, Groening revealed:

Springfield was named after Springfield, Oregon. The only reason is that when I was a kid, the TV show “Father Knows Best” took place in the town of Springfield, and I was thrilled because I imagined that it was the town next to Portland, my hometown. When I grew up, I realized it was just a fictitious name. I also figured out that Springfield was one of the most common names for a city in the U.S. In anticipation of the success of the show, I thought, “This will be cool; everyone will think it’s their Springfield.” And they do.

So there you go. It was named after Springfield, Oregon, and otherwise does not exist, because cartoons. Now back to watching 130 Simpsons episodes at once. Because that’s where the real answers lie…

Flaunting her toned beach bod along the south of the border shoreline, Kate Hudson enjoyed a loved up Cancun getaway with Matthew Bellamy over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend (March 16).

The 32-year-old actress rocked a skimpy black and white striped bikini as she and the Muse rocker mate swam in the Caribbean Sea waters and shared kisses while perched on the sandy coastal terrain.

Making the sighting quite intriguing, Kate and Matthew’s Mexican holiday may actually be a honeymoon – as reports tell that Hudson’s mom, Goldie Hawn, referred to the pair as “married” in a slip-up during a recent interview.

Talking to Britain’s ES magazine, Hawn said, “My kids are fantastic with their children, they have an amazing parental ethic and I’m very proud of them for that.”

“When my daughter Kate married an English rock star it didn’t worry me; all that matters (is) that the relationship is a good one. What people do is not necessarily who they are,” Goldie added.

At the current time, there’s no confirmation of the marriage by either Hudson, nor Bellamy’s reps.

With Bourne series writer Tony Gilroy still continuing the franchise without the seemingly-necessary involvement of Jason Bourne, Matt Damon is now opening up about what a shit head Gilroy was about writing the third film, The Bourne Ultimatum. On his press rounds for promoting his zoo purchase, Damon told GQ (via):

Damon says, for The Bourne Ultimatum, the third in the franchise, Gilroy struck a deal to write just one draft of the script, take no notes, do no rewrites, and get paid “an exorbitant amount of money.”

“It’s really the studio’s fault for putting themselves in that position,” Damon says. “I don’t blame Tony for taking a boatload of money and handing in what he handed in. It’s just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It’s terrible. It’s really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left.”

Damon has since apologized for the comments, explaining that his Bourne-feelings were just hurt and adding, “saying anything publicly is fucking stupid and unprofessional and just kind of douchey of me.” Also, in Gilroy’s defense, Damon’s eBay claim probably isn’t all that accurate. Nothing ever works out how you’d hope it would on eBay. You go on there with dreams of earning a fortune selling what you know to be a beautiful and priceless doll collection; you end up with a bunch of assholes bidding at the last second, leaving you with practically no money and now no cherished porcelain infants to comfort you, either. Or so I’ve heard.
