With Bourne series writer Tony Gilroy still continuing the franchise without the seemingly-necessary involvement of Jason Bourne, Matt Damon is now opening up about what a shit head Gilroy was about writing the third film, The Bourne Ultimatum. On his press rounds for promoting his zoo purchase, Damon told GQ (via):

Damon says, for The Bourne Ultimatum, the third in the franchise, Gilroy struck a deal to write just one draft of the script, take no notes, do no rewrites, and get paid “an exorbitant amount of money.”

“It’s really the studio’s fault for putting themselves in that position,” Damon says. “I don’t blame Tony for taking a boatload of money and handing in what he handed in. It’s just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It’s terrible. It’s really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left.”

Damon has since apologized for the comments, explaining that his Bourne-feelings were just hurt and adding, “saying anything publicly is fucking stupid and unprofessional and just kind of douchey of me.” Also, in Gilroy’s defense, Damon’s eBay claim probably isn’t all that accurate. Nothing ever works out how you’d hope it would on eBay. You go on there with dreams of earning a fortune selling what you know to be a beautiful and priceless doll collection; you end up with a bunch of assholes bidding at the last second, leaving you with practically no money and now no cherished porcelain infants to comfort you, either. Or so I’ve heard.
