If you’re one of these people who can overlook the difficult-to-look-at crimes Chris Brown and competitive dance have done with Rihanna, you might want to check out this trailer for Battle of the Year 3D. The latest 3D dance competition film stars Lost‘s Josh Holloway as a character that seems to be in the wrong movie–a down-and-out, presumably alcoholic former basketball coach who’s fallen from grace, and now just sits around in sweatpants. But he’s also GOT HEART, so, despite not having any sort of dance experience, he’s recruited to coach a ragtag team of dancers that includes Brown, Josh Peck, and a guy loosely defined as “the best.” To make up for Holloway’s lack of dance experience, Peck finds the team a choreographer. She is also “the best.” But that’s just who they’re going to need if team USA is to beat South Korea.

In Sony’s first move in re-positioning their Crackle video service as the Hulu of warmly mocking poor hillbillies, the company today announced their first venture into feature-length films will be with a sequel to 2001′s Joe Dirt.

They’re reportedly calling the project “the first digital movie sequel to a hit motion picture”–dubious in both its ambition and claim, as the David Spade comedy wasn’t even really a hit. It opened at number four, and made only $ 30 million worldwide over its entire run. Its most notable, enduring accomplishment is the honor of sitting at the top of Ebert’s Most Hated list. Yet this won’t even be the first time someone has tried to mine more comedy from the literal and figurative piles of shit within Joe Dirt: back in 2010, TBS was developing the film into an animated series.

Despite the allure of doing it cheaper as Spawn of Dirt, Sony promises the sequel will again star Spade and, despite a dozen years having passed, “pick up where the last one left off,” before Joe’s inevitable decline into meth addiction.

Sony also promised a martial arts film with Jon Woo and sensei Danny Glover, and renewed Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, promising next season’s episodes to include Chris Rock, Sarah Silverman, and David Letterman. You know, if you’re into that sort of thing, where people talk like human beings and no one has a mullet wig.

Director Brian Kirk–whose television work has included episodes on Luther, Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, and Game of Thrones–will make his feature debut having Keanu Reeves burst out of a pod again. He’s reportedly just signed on to direct Passengers, a sci-fi script from Prometheus‘s non-Lindelof writer Jon Spaihts. It centers on a space transport vessel where thousands are in stasis to reach a distant colony; when Keanu Reeves’s sleep chamber opens 90 years prematurely, he gets bored and freaked out with aging alone, and decides to open some woman’s chamber too–a pretty hugely dick move that nonetheless begins a romance between wakened passengers. Though really more of “a unique love story,” the film is still being sold as science fiction for its outlandish premise of Keanu Reeves aging.
