The past several years have been trying for Michael Douglas. Claiming to have battled stage four throat cancer and overcoming it, the Oscar winner now reveals that his condition may have been a bit different than we were led to believe.
In an interview with Samuel L. Jackson on the U.K. talk show “This Morning,” the 69-year-old admitted on Thursday (October 10) that he actually struggled with tongue cancer.
“This was right before I had a big tour for Wall Street, so we kind of said, ‘There’s no way we can cancel the tour and say we don’t feel well,'” Douglas admitted. “I said, ‘You’ve just got to come out and just tell them I’ve got cancer and that’s it.'”
His doctor, who’d found a walnut-size tumor at the base of Douglas’ tongue, warned the actor that he might not want to reveal that he had a disease with such a negative prognosis during such a large press obligation.
Douglas continued, saying, “The surgeon said, ‘Let’s just say it’s throat cancer.'” The doctor apparently told him that if they had to do surgery for tongue cancer “it’s not going to be pretty,” and that Douglas faced losing part of his jaw and tongue. So, he decided that he would undergo intensive chemotherapy for throat cancer in hopes to defeat it all, throat, tongue, and any other cancers in between.
Michael Douglas has remained cancer-free since January 2011.
After announcing her diagnosis of thyroid cancer early in November, Brooke Burke-Charvet will undergo a thyroidectomy surgery this week.
Updating her loyal Facebook fans, on Monday (December 3) the “Dancing with the Stars” co-host tweeted, “I’m getting ready this week for my surgery and am planning on a speedy recovery. I’ll be posting some new blogs on ModernMom.com about how I’ve been dealing with it all and how my family has been handling it too.”

Pairing up for quite the worthwhile cause, Lea Michele and Darren Criss provided the entertainment at The Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation’s 17th Annual Taste For A Cure Gala in Beverly Hills, California on Friday night (April 20).
Held at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons Hotel, the “Glee” co-stars lent their stardom to the yearly event for the UCLA based non-profit organization with a mission of raising private funds for highest priority cancer research.
With other stars including Wilmer Valderrama, Anne Heche and fellow “Glee” actor Joel McHale all partaking in the festivities, this year’s Taste For A Cure Gala saw the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award be doted upon NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke.
Of picking Miss Salke for the accolade, Judith C. Gasson, Ph.D., Director, UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, said in a statement, “Our organization is so fortunate to have such an extraordinary and dedicated supporter in Jennifer Salke and we are honored to celebrate this remarkable woman for her generosity and commitment to our mission.”
“Jennifer’s support of numerous philanthropic causes and her dedication to improving the lives of others embodies all of those qualities that exemplify the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award,” Dr. Gasson added.
Finally, an indie dramedy in which the thin, white, relatively well-to-do 20-something at its center has a reason to be all whiney and despondent: he’s got cancer! Written by and based on the experiences of actual 27-year-old cancer survivor/Seth Rogen friend Will Reiser, 50/50 stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a young man diagnosed with the disease, while Rogen shows up to be all Seth Rogeny as the best friend that helps him cope. Here’s the film’s first trailer, which looks good enough that I’ll probably have to just go ahead and see thing, despite knowing full well that I will be thoroughly convinced I have cancer for months afterward. I guess it can’t be any worse than post-Inception “I’m in a dream!” panic.
She’s always loved a good cause, and last night (September 26) Whitney Port was spotted at the American Cancer Society’s “More Birthdays” celebration.
The “City” chick traded in her East Coast digs for some time in Los Angeles as she attended the charity shindig, held at the Little Door restaurant.
Also along for the ride were Whitney’s parents Jeff and Vicki Port, as well as her handsome boyfriend Ben Nemtin.
And it sounds like she had a great time- Whitney tweeted, “Amazing dinner with amazing people for an amazing cause! Off to sleep, goodnight twitterville xoxo.”
