he doesntt actually swim as much as i thort, i go 5 hours a day 4 days a week and 2 and half hours on the other days, but i get sundays off. swimming is a very high demand of training and he just does the norm really…must have a very good natural talent
FUCK ME! this guy does 4 hours swimmin 4 dais a week and like 2 hrs on the other dais. hes an absolute swimming legend, monster of what he does. i wonder if when he was young, say 11-12 or so when he was taking part in average count galas and stuff if he always won or lost to other kids, like ther was 1 kid he couldnt beat. ide love to be that guy and say hey, when i was a kid, i beat phelps!!! but yh im not that guy.

and you’re right, michael has alot of interation with other people and seems to be a very nonselfish guy. So I dont believe his lack of interest in the other competitors is selfish.
and congrats michael for the 8 golds in a single olympics game! i was backing you all the way!
I run cross country and track and honestly i have the same perspective. When you get to the start line (or blocks in phelps’ case) you cant think of your competitors. If you are focusing on other people than it may your own attention away from your own goals. I think Michael is seeing it the same way, he has his own goals to focus on in order to become what he wants to become, therefore his focus has to be on him. It may sound selfish but its the way in the sport world.
Question:
When he says that he doesn’t care about the other people he’s racing, do you think that could sound selfish?
I feel like it just shows his focus and drive, and since I’ve seen him be very caring towards other people I don’t think he’s a selfish person.
But some people have told me that he seems so self-absorbed and everything.
Idk just wondering.
I agree completely about swiming being in the dark on the odd years.

oh my god! i totally agree! I run track and XC, and no one knows who the hell Pre Fontaine or any other really famous runners! and runners and swimmers work so, so hard and get almost no credit or recognition for it!
I know EXACTLY how he feels… Track is the same way. Non-Olympic years no seems to know anything about track
